    The Assistant Salon Manager assists the Salon Manager in all facets of a salon’s operations and provides leadership and tools to staff to help them increase their clientele and the business. The Assistant Manager also provides all hair care services offered by your salon and ensures the highest quality of customer service standards and salon profitability.




    The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    • Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs to pick up bottles of product needed to perform hair services and stock retail shelves. Occasional lifting 10-25 lbs to assist unloading monthly shipment of products.
    • Continuous standing throughout the day to perform hair services.
    • Continuous walking – greeting the client at the front of the salon and walking them back to the styling chair, to and from the shampoo area, to get supplies needed for the service and walking the client back to the front of the salon.
    • Continuous repetitive movement with fingers, hands, wrists and arms using scissors to cut hair, rolling hair in rods to perform perm services, vigorous movement to massage/shampoo client’s hair, twisting wrists to blow dry and styling hair with various irons.
    • Continuous grasping of client’s hair, blow dryer, curling iron, combs, and hair coloring brushes in order to perform services.
    • Continuous reaching, alternating between shoulder level and above shoulder level height to perform services, stock shelves, retrieve product / supplies from cupboards and shelves.
    • Frequent twisting and bending to shampoo client’s hair and twisting to reach for tools while client is seated in styling chair and sweep hair off the floor after service.
    • Occasional pushing and pulling to move styling chair.
    • Continuous exposure to various chemicals and fragrances used in performing services and styling hair, including but not limited to permanent solutions, shampoos, conditioners, hair spray and client perfume.
    • Occasional climbing of ladder / stepstool to stock shelves, retrieve products and maintain salon.
    • Visual observation of a customer’s hair, including close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Ability to communicate with customers regarding services offered and requested and the customer’s needs and wants.
    • Basic reading, writing and mathematical skills necessary to read and complete company forms and other documents, read product instructions and prepare daily close-out documents.
    • Occasional travel to mandatory meetings and training sessions, including overnight travel.


    • Be a leader and role model, inspire others, coach employees and solve problems with employees and customers
    • Assist the Salon Manager to ensure the salon is properly staffed at all times and be available to work all hours that the salon is open, including evenings, Saturdays and Sundays to ensure coverage and resolve issues that arise in the salon
    • Assist the Salon Manager with recruiting, interviewing and hiring staff, motivating and training employees, providing guidance to employees and evaluating employee performance, setting goals for employees, documenting important conversations, incidents and goals and approving time off and scheduling employees
    • Assist the Salon Manager in disciplining and terminating staff when appropriate
    • Oversee product refunds and ensure daily deposits are made and are accurate
    • Enforce and promote all corporate policies, procedures and work rules, including ensuring staff’s licenses are posted and their hair, make-up and clothing comply with dress code
    • Protect the company’s property
    • Ensure information in computer is correct and up to date, including employee and new hire information and salon price list
    • Resolve customer complaints
    • Assist the Salon Manager in maintaining product and supply inventory
    • Ensure all documents and required paperwork are completed and transmitted to the office timely
    • Ensure the cleanliness of the salon and that the salon complies with all applicable state and local sanitation rules
    • Assist the Salon Manager with conducting monthly meetings and communicating all competitions to staff
    • Ensure apprentices are on target for program completion
    • Assist the Salon Manager with education (ensure assistants and stylists are signed up for any necessary classes and that assistants and stylists are on track for their 6 Week Course)
    • Analyze customers’ hair to determine condition of hair and appropriate methods to reach the desired goal
    • Conduct a quality consultation by suggesting hairstyles according to physical features of the customer and current styles, or determine the style from the customer’s instructions
    • Perform all necessary and current styles, perms, relaxers, colors and haircutting techniques that are requested from the customer and offered by the Salon in a competent, efficient and professional manner;
    • Effectively promote and sell services and products, including recommending and selling additional services and/or retail products which will enhance and improve the customer’s image and/or contribute to the customer’s satisfaction with services performed
    • Meet or exceed minimum productivity requirements established by the Company
    • Attend work timely and consistently, including attending all salon meetings, monthly management and financial meetings and any meetings requested by corporate office (which may require overnight travel), training sessions or as otherwise required by management
    • Perform a variety of tasks related to salon operations, including but not limited to taking inventory, answering telephones, scheduling appointments for chemical services, stocking shelves and other duties
    • Communicate effectively with management, customers and co-workers in a professional and courteous manner
    • Maintain confidential information regarding the company and its employees.

    Physical Requirements

    Licensing: Position requires a valid current cosmetology or barber’s license.
